Turkish Coffee Lady Launches the First Coffee Diplomacy Foundation

13 Mar, 2020

Turkish Coffee Lady has announced the launch of its non-profit coffee diplomacy platform on International Women’s Day. Founded in Washington D.C., the Turkish Coffee Lady Foundation is dedicated to build cross-cultural friendships through coffee diplomacy. The organization’s main mission is to promote the 500-year old Turkish coffee culture, bridge cultures one cup at a time, and contribute to Turkey’s nation branding over coffee conversations.

“There is a famous Turkish saying that goes “A cup of Turkish coffee is remembered with appreciation for 40 years” which means offering a cup of coffee binds a friendship.” said Gizem Salcigil White, aka the Turkish Coffee Lady. “Coffee and coffee house culture spread from Istanbul in the 17th century to Europe and then to Americas. That culture has helped define our identities for centuries, and our dedicated team is eager to continue that tradition -- one coffee at a time.” said Turkish Coffee Lady Gizem Salcigil White, the founder of award-winning Turkish Coffee Truck project launched in 2009.

“Turkish coffee culture is recognized by UNESCO’s World Heritage list as a cultural inheritance that should be protected. That’s why we are so excited to share this five-centuries old ritual with other societies while empowering women entrepreneurs through our educational programs.” said Melek Edib, Vice President.  Turkish Coffee Lady Foundation also runs programs to empower women entrepreneurs and inspire them to pursue their dreams. Through its “Entrepreneurial Ladies Club” program, the organization will be offering consultancy and guidance to women entrepreneurs both in the U.S and Turkey.

“Coffee is a global language and every cup has a unique story. After receiving incredible attention during our United States, Europe and Canada tours, we are excited to expand this non-profit community building initiative and build more awareness on Turkish coffee’s significant place in world history.” said historian Göknur Akçadağ, who has been mentoring the non-profit project since 2009.

Turkish Coffee Lady Foundation is supported by Turkey’s oldest coffee ground seller Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi and Inomoon Innovative Digital Marketing Agency.
